What the course is

The course, read.

A one-year specialisation for law graduates: a chance to deepen a practice area and earn an internationally recognised credential. Bar-qualification rules differ by country, and we map them up front.

Before you apply

What you’ll need.

A four-point self-check. If a row surfaces a gap, we’ll route you to the right prep to close it. Before the application opens, not after.

  1. 01 Academic Must meet

A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent first degree in law, typically a 2:1 or international equivalent.

Some LLMs accept a non-law degree with substantial legal content. We check eligibility against each programme before you apply.

    2:1 Minimum band
  2. 02 English language Must meet

IELTS Academic 7.0 overall is common for LLM programmes, with no band below 6.5. PTE and TOEFL equivalents accepted.

Below band? Prep first. Reapplying weaker rarely lands.

  3. 03 Documents Must meet

Questions, answered

Law (LLM) FAQ.

Eligibility first, then fees, outcomes, and application logistics.

Will an LLM let me practise law abroad?

Not automatically. Bar qualification is separate and jurisdiction-specific, for example the SQE in England or a state bar in the US. An LLM can be a step toward it. We map the exact route for your target country before you apply.

Can I do an LLM without an LLB?

Sometimes. A few programmes accept a non-law degree with significant legal content, and some offer conversion routes. We check your eligibility programme by programme.

UK or US for an LLM?

UK for common-law depth and a one-year format; US for corporate practice and bar-eligibility in some states. The right answer depends on where you want to practise. The free call settles it.

What English score do I need?

LLM programmes tend to ask for IELTS 7.0 with no band below 6.5, higher than most Master’s, because of the reading and writing load. If you’re short, prep first; we plan the test date around the application.

What does Transitley handle?
