What the course is

The course, read.

For engineering graduates who want specialisation, industry exposure and a route into a global market. Discipline and country choice matter more here than brand.

01 / 03

Learning outcomes

Specialise, then prove it on a real project.

Deep technical coursework in your discipline plus a substantial thesis or industry project. German programmes frequently embed a paid working semester.

Industry placements common on German Master’s.

02 / 03

Industry relevance

Built next to the companies that hire.

German engineering Master’s run alongside the Mittelstand and the auto and industrial sector; US programmes anchor funded research; UK programmes lead on output.

Discipline-specific demand mapped per country.

03 / 03

Why students choose it

World-class engineering, near-zero tuition.

German public universities charge little or no tuition, which makes a funded research route genuinely affordable. The trade-off is language and timeline, and we plan for both.

German-language needs flagged at shortlist.

Before you apply

What you’ll need.

A four-point self-check. If a row surfaces a gap, we’ll route you to the right prep to close it. Before the application opens, not after.

  1. 01 Academic Must meet

A Bachelor’s in the relevant engineering discipline, typically a 2:1 or international equivalent, with a strong maths and core-subject record.

German programmes scrutinise module-level transcripts for subject match. We pre-check the fit so you don’t apply blind.

    2:1 Minimum band
  2. 02 English language Must meet

IELTS Academic 6.5 for English-taught programmes. Some German Master’s also expect German (often B1–B2); we flag which at shortlist.

Below band? Prep first. Reapplying weaker rarely lands.

  3. 03 Documents Must meet

Transcripts, two academic references, statement of purpose, CV, passport scan.

The SoP is the lever most candidates underestimate. We co-edit it with you, free, as part of the application support.

  4. 04 Work experience Recommended

Not required. Internships and a relevant final-year project strengthen applications and funded-research cases.

Questions, answered

Engineering FAQ.

Eligibility first, then fees, outcomes, and application logistics.

Do I need to speak German to study in Germany?

Not for English-taught Master’s, and there are many. You will need some German for daily life and most working-student roles, and a few programmes require B1–B2. We flag the language bar before you shortlist.

Is German engineering really almost free?

Public universities charge little or no tuition, yes, though a few states levy a small fee. You still budget for living costs and the blocked account for the visa. We put the real all-in number on the table.

Will my discipline transfer cleanly?

German admissions check module-level transcript match closely. We pre-screen your transcript against target programmes so you apply where the subject fit clears the bar.

US or Germany for engineering?

US for funded research assistantships and salary ceiling; Germany for low tuition and an industrial route. We weigh both against your budget and target roles on the free call.

What does Transitley handle?

Transcript matching, shortlisting, SoP, references, blocked-account and financial documentation, and visa filing. One counsellor across the cycle, free for the first conversation.
